Poetry Tools!
This week in Y6, we have explored poetry. During our features lesson, we explored different ‘Poetry Tools’ poets use to capture the reader’s imagination. Poetry can be really tricky; however, Y6 have shown their determination and excellence to develop a super understanding so far! Well done…
The snowman!
We have watched The Snowman and spoken about what a snowman should not do! In this imaginative story the snowman comes to life and does lots of things such as ride a motorbike, fly through that winter sky and sit by the fire and almost melt! We enjoyed writing about ‘what a snowman should not do’…
Alternative Event Writing
This week, we have continued to practice a range of skills to prepare us for our independent writes which will be an alternative event based on the text ‘War Horse’. I have been beyond impressed with the writing this week and look forward to reading everybody’s independent…
Owl Babies
We have begun our new class text this week - Owl Babies. We have used Talk for Writing and role play to show our understanding of the book, the characters and their feelings. We can recall key elements of the story in order!
Story Map
In writing we have created our own story map to support our retell writing. We have broken the story into parts, wrote sentences/ captions for each and then drew images to remind us what happened during each part.
Discursive Writing!
In our Writing lessons this week, we have started a new genre of writing called ‘Discursive Writing’. In one of our lessons we annotated a WAGOLL using our iPads to identify different features of the genre and Y6 produced some brilliantly annotated WAGOLLs! Keep up the good work…
Sentence structure
We have used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to correctly punctuate a sentence based on the speech of our characters.

We have been really impressed this week with the amount of effort Year 5 have put into their writing! Keep up the hard work!
Peace at last!
We have read and roleplayed the story Peace at Last by Jill Murphy to help us to understand the events and structure.
This is the bear…
We have had a walk to the local park and taken the bear with us. We had lots of fun and so did the bear! When we got back to School, we realised that we had left the bear at the park! Oh no!
High level Vocabulary!
This week in writing we have been focussing on using high level vocabulary to uplevel our work!
