We’re going on a shape hunt!
Today the children used their knowledge of circles and triangles to hunt for shapes in the outdoor area. They quickly spotted lots of circles but had to search harder to spot the triangles. We are shape detectives in reception!
Learning about celebrations
Today we began our topic of celebrations. We looked at what some different types of celebrations are and the children spent time discussing the celebrations they took part in. We then identified which pictures taken at various celebrations fit with the ones they celebrate eg if they celebrate…
Gymnastics!
We have begun Gymnastics this half term and we have remembered a lot of the shapes that we made with our bodies from Reception. The children could show me a tuck, pike, straddle and star shape. We also recapped some more of the shapes that we may have forgotten about and used them in a sequence.
Sentence structure
We have used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to correctly punctuate a sentence based on the speech of our characters.
Using all Our Senses in Forest School
This week we have been learning all about Autumn. We took part in our first Forest School session with Autumn activities.

The Anglo Saxons!
This week in History, we have moved onto our new topic of Anglo Saxons, year 5 did really well using Showbie to showcase their learning.
Order!
We have used cubes to practically order them from smallest to greatest or greatest to smallest. We have also wrote the numbers underneath the concrete representations.
Peace at last!
We have read and roleplayed the story Peace at Last by Jill Murphy to help us to understand the events and structure.
Animal groups
We have learnt the differences between the animal groups including the physical features that will be different. The children then completed a sorting task to group the images into the correct animal type. They learnt about mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Features of a fiction and non-fiction book
In book talk we discussed the different features of fiction and non-fiction books. We learnt that a fiction book is a story and is made up using the authors imagination and a non fiction book contains facts and real life information. We explored the contents page and glossary of non-fiction books…
Signs of Autumn- an autumn walk
Today we looked at the signs of autumn and how we know the seasons are changing. We then went out and looked at the signs of autumn around our school. We saw brown and orange leaves, berries growing on the trees and also discussed the weather.
