Features of Stoke-on-Trent
During Geography, we have used our iPad to record our voice labelling the features of Stoke-on-Trent. The children enjoyed using this new app whilst using our geographical language to complete their task.
A walk in our local area!
This afternoon as part of our understanding the world topic, duck class have been on a walk around our local area. We discussed road safety and different human and physical features in Hanley. We even got to see some ducks! The children were so well behaved.
Talk for Writing
We used 'Talk for Writing' to retell our Treasure Book story, Whatever Next! We thought of pictures to draw for each part of the story and added actions to help us retell it in our own words.
Understanding paragraphs!
This week in writing, year 5 have been focussing on understanding what paragraphs are and how to use them; to make our writing more cohesive, by grouping ideas together.
Sharks!
This week, in reading, we have started reading our new non fiction text all about sharks. Year 5 have really engaged with this text, it has been lovely to see!
Excellent PE skills
Today in PE We have used the bats, balls and cones, we moved slowly, then fast, we played the traffic light game, making sure we were always looking and listening.
This is the Bear and the Scary Night Talk for Writing
We are beginning a new story in our literacy lessons, This is the Bear and the Scary night! Today we have created a talk for writing map to help us to remember the story and we then discussed what actions we could include for our retell.
Rebuilding London after the Great Fire
In History we have learned about how London was rebuilt after The Great Fire. We discussed how improvements were made to ensure a disaster like this never happens again. Roads were made wider and straighter so houses could be more spaced out. Houses were made out of brick which is a less flammable…
One more!
During Maths, we have practically worked out what is one more than a given number. We have used concrete objects and the tens frames to make our given number, add one more to it and watch our number become larger!
This is the bear…
We have begun our new class text called ‘This is the bear and the scary night’
We have enjoyed using actions and phrase to retell the story during our Talk For Writing lesson. Look at the story map we have created together as a class!
Being a good friend
This morning we have been speaking about what makes a good friend and how we are all going to make sure we are a good friend today. Our ideas included asking someone to play with us, being kind to someone, smiling at a new friend and sharing when we are playing outside at lunch time.
