Our new topic in Maths this week has been fractions! We are really proud of how well Year 5 have been able to recall their prior knowledge of fractions and apply their skills to find fractions that are equivalent.

This week in Geography year 5 really enjoyed our lesson surrounding oceans and the climate, we have been learning all about warm and cold currents!

In writing we have created our own story map to support our retell writing. We have broken the story into parts, wrote sentences/ captions for each and then drew images to remind us what happened during each part.

In Science this week, we learnt about Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. We learnt that Darwin had studied finches on the Galápagos Islands and noticed that each island had a different type of finch that had evolved depending on which food was available! This week is anti-bullying week and in recognition of this day children came to school wearing odd socks! It was great to see so many children wearing their odd socks!

Today reception took part in a forest school session all about the season of autumn. This links to our prior understanding the world learning of seasons and seasonal changes. The children loved being outside and getting involved in all the activities set out. 

We decorated Poppies to show our respect for Remembrance Day. We took part in a minutes silence and watched a video to help us understand the emotions that people may have felt. 

Last week BeeActive came in to play some games with us! We loved joining in and playing with our friends.

We had a new role play area that we have loved exploring. We have used our personal experiences to take part in ‘shopping’. We are learning new vocabulary, how to create narratives with friends and lots of social skills.

This week in Science, Year 5 have started their new science topic all about space!

This week we have been helping our environmental parliament to make our school ground bloom. We planted lots of daffodils around the school and can’t wait to see them grow.
