Plant adaptations!
This week in Science, we have considered how plants are adapted to survive. As part of our lesson, we create posters based on either a cactus, sunflower or Venus fly trap. Here are some amazing examples in which Y6 Whales produced!
Planting a tree
Today we enjoyed planting 2 trees in our playground. We learnt how to plant and how to then care for our new trees. We made a promise to look after our trees and to help them to grow. We love gardening in reception!
Number bonds to ten!
We have used a tower of ten cubes to find number bonds to 10. We have broken the tower and counted the two parts. From this, we were able to write the number bond on our whiteboard!
Planting Power!
In our continued effort to take care of our School environment, we have been outside again planting some tree saplings. Each class has planted two trees each - Hazel, cherry blossoms and Rowan trees. Seals class have planted two rowan trees today!
Climate change in Ethiopia
Today in Geography, we considered how climate change is impacting Ethiopia. We explored some of the impacts of climate change and some of the responses to it as well. Y6 Whales produced some great work on Showbie highlighting the impact climate change has on both rural and urban areas and how…
The phases of the moon
Year 5 have enjoyed learning about the different phases of the moon in Science this week, and are finding our new topic really interesting!
Swimming!
It has been lovely to see over these past few weeks, how our Year 5 pupils have grown in confidence when in the water swimming! Keep up the hard work!
Comparing Weight
We have been comparing different objects and talking about if they are heavy or light. We used our hands to test their weight and then we looked at images and guessed if they would be heavy or light.
We have a good understanding or weight and are using this independently in play.
Fine Motor Skills and Tracing Our Names
We have been using crayons to develop our pencil grip and control. We coloured in and tried our best to stay in the lines. We then finished by tracing our names.
Super fine motor SKILLS
Exploring Winter!
We were so excited to see the snow this week and we loved using our senses and hands on exploration to explore winter. We talked about the weather, how cold it is and what can keep us warm . We used our hands to feel snow and describe what it felt like and made a class snowman.
Cooking rice!
This week in DT we have learnt all about rice! We learnt about why rice is a staple food for dishes around the world and we even learnt how to cook rice! Y6 really enjoyed this lesson and learnt how to cook safely!
Fascinating fossils!
This week in Science we learnt all about how fossils can inform us about life that existed many years ago. We considered how fossils support theories of evolution and how they show that simple organisms evolved over time into more complex ones.
