Super shapes!
Today we have been looking at the number of sides a 2D shape has. We worked hard to investigate what 3, 2D shapes we could create using only 15 lolly sticks.
Sorting by Shape
The children have been learning all about shapes this week. We have been focusing on sorting simple 2D shapes into groups. The children are focusing on recognising the shapes in different ways such as size and colour but knowing they are still the same shape represented in different ways. They…
Amazing maths!
Today in maths we have been exploring how to practically find two parts and name the whole up to 5. Some of us were also able to answer a reasoning question relating to the composition of numbers up to 5. We are super mathematicians!
Marvellous Metric Measures!
This week, Y6 have started their new Maths topics entitled ‘Converting Units’. This week we have been learning all about metric measures and converted them using division and multiplication. Y6 are doing really well with this topic so far, keep up the super work!
Representing numbers 4 and 5
We represented the numbers 4 and 5 using different objects in a five frame. Using the five frame to support our understanding, we were able to explain that if the frame is full there must be 5 objects and if the five frame is missing one, there must be 4 .
Junk Modelling Buildings!
We have been junk modelling different buildings. We took inspiration from the temples visited by Hindu's as part of their Diwali celebrations.
We looked at the different shapes, colours and sizes. The children then looked at all of the available resources and independently chose what they…
Sorting Objects by Size
The children have been great at identifying and using the vocabulary 'big and small'. We looked at a range of objects from the environment and sorted them into groups in pairs. We told our friends why we thought one was big and one was small.

Super subtraction
Today we used base ten to help us in subtracting across the ten. We used the base ten to help us with our understanding of exchanging.
Positional language
We learnt that we can use positional language (e.g. in, on, behind, in front) to describe the position of objects. We followed instructions to demonstrate our understanding of this vocabulary. We then used the vocabulary ourselves to describe the position of the teddy bear.
Quantity to Number
We recognised all of the numbers 0-3! We then used the leaves to represent the value of the number.
Great work Ducklings!
Shape hunt!
We went on a shape hunt in our outdoor environment, searching for circles and triangles. We discussed the properties of these shapes, including the number of sides and corners. We managed to find lots in our environment, working as a team!
