Junk Modelling Buildings!
We have been junk modelling different buildings. We took inspiration from the temples visited by Hindu's as part of their Diwali celebrations.
We looked at the different shapes, colours and sizes. The children then looked at all of the available resources and independently chose what they…
Hand art to create a menorah
We used our hands and sponges to create menorah art, as part of our learning about the festival of Hanukkah. We carefully positioned our fingers to create nine candles before adding the flames to the candles using a sponge. We discussed the significance of the menorah to Hanukkah.
Fine Motor Rangoli Patterns!
This week we have been learning how Hindu's celebrate Diwali. We looked at 'Rangoli Patterns'. These are patterns drawn on the ground and traditionally decorated in sand. We loved the look of them and used our fine motor skills to decorate our own.
We used the tweezers to pick up different…
Children in Need
Today we celebrated Children in Need. We discussed why we are celebrating and how different people celebrate.
The children loved coming to school in yellow, spotty clothes! We loved creating masks, cutting, tracing and taking part in Pudsey activities!
Writing initial sounds and CVC words!
We used our phonics to identify the initial sound in different words, before writing the corresponding grapheme. Some of us challenged ourselves to write CVC words by segmenting. We are becoming more confident when applying our phonics knowledge to spell!
Leaf rubbings
We created leaf rubbings using leaves from our environment and wax crayons. We discussed what colours the leaves of deciduous trees change to in autumn and chose appropriate colours to complete our art.
Fine Motor - Tracing
We have been working very hard on our pencil grips and finding out how to get the best control of the pencil. We all have a dominate hand and Miss Mayer modelled how to hold the pencil correctly. We then practised tracing over different lines with increasing control.
We used the felt tips and…
Fine Motor Tracing
In ducklings we have been developing our fine motor skills and learning how to use tweezers. Most children have now found their dominate hand and have been experimenting with different grips on tools. This supports the muscle growth in our hands in preparation for writing.
We carefully picked…
Amazing artists!
Today we have been exploring different mediums. We have used pencils/handwriting pens to complete observational drawings of the objects we collected last week to create replicas of Andy Goldsworthy’s work. Today we focused on continual line drawing and the results were fantastic.
Observational drawings
We made careful observations of a range of natural objects, including shells, pebbles, sticks and leaves. We discussed the different shapes, textures and colours that we could see. After this, we selected which resource we wanted to draw with, before carefully drawing our chosen objects. This was…
