Spectacular Space!
Today, Year 4 took part in some in incredible Science day activities, all about space, to celebrate British Science Week!
A spring walk- spotting signs of spring
The children in reception went on a spring walk to see what signs of spring we could spot. We saw a birds nest, buds on the trees and daffodils. We then read our topic story outside called ‘busy spring nature wakes up’. The children really enjoyed using their senses to explore signs of spring and…
Let’s up the voltage!
Year 6 have been investigating what happens when we increase the voltage in a circuit.
Animals that hibernate
Today the children were looking at and discussing animals that hibernate and those which do not. We read the story ‘Don’t hog the hedge’ and then discussed the animals in the story which were hibernating and what this means. We then completed an activity where the children identified animals which…
Light investigation
Year 6 investigated what happens to their pupil when their eye is exposed to light.
Freezing and melting
Today in reception we have been exploring the snow and discussing the process of freezing and melting. We think that the snow and ice will melt because the sun is out. We will check back later to see if we are correct!
Solids, Liquids and Gases
Today the children have started their new topic of properties of materials, starting at the very beginning of this we have investigated the differences between solids, liquids and gases right down to their particles.
Earth and Space
In our Science lesson this week, we have been modelling the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. We then made a model and wrote a short explanation in our books.
Hedgehogs!
We used the leaves we collected last week to use for spikes on our clay hedgehogs. We knew lots of facts about hedgehogs because we had been learning about them in our English lessons. Ms Barker was very impressed by our knowledge!
Other activities this week included bug hunting and mud…
The Solar System
In Science we are learning about the Solar System. This week we created a 'Pocket Solar System' to take home and share with our families. We learnt the names of each planet and how far away they are from the sun.
Skittles in Science
As part of our topic learning about the circulatory system, Year 6 used skittles and water to investigate how nutrients pass into our bloodstream from our digestive organs.
Healthy hearts
Sharks creating model hearts using a plastic cup, balloon and water with red food colouring. Our favourite part was when the blood splurged out of the blood vessels (straws!)
