Fascinating fossils!
This week in Science we learnt all about how fossils can inform us about life that existed many years ago. We considered how fossils support theories of evolution and how they show that simple organisms evolved over time into more complex ones.
Charles Darwin and his finches!
In Science this week, we learnt about Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. We learnt that Darwin had studied finches on the Galápagos Islands and noticed that each island had a different type of finch that had evolved depending on which food was available! We conducted an investigation to explore…
Animal groups
We have learnt the differences between the animal groups including the physical features that will be different. The children then completed a sorting task to group the images into the correct animal type. They learnt about mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Model of blood!
This week in Science, we made a model of the human blood using different materials. We really enjoyed this lesson even though it was a little bit gross!
Using body part labels to label our friends
In science we are learning about humans, this week we have been learning about body parts. Some children worked in groups to label each others body parts.
Super Science
Year 6 have been busy creating a model heart in our Science lessons this week. As part of our ‘Animals including Humans’ topic, we have shown how the heart pumps blood to other parts of the body using its thick, muscular walls and pressure within the arteries.
Life cycle of a bird!
We have had a great time in Science this afternoon as we have created a model to represent the life cycle of a bird. We then presented them to the class using key vocabulary!
Celery Success
Today Year 3 have learned about how water travels through a plant from the roots to the leaves. We then investigated this by using celery and food coloured water to observe the plant absorbing the colourful water. Look at our results and a fantastic example of the work that was produced!
Observing our caterpillars grow and change
Over the past few weeks we have been observing our class caterpillars grow and change. They have grown from tiny caterpillars to much bigger caterpillars, and then they turned into cocoons! We are excited to report that this week, two beautiful butterflies emerged from the cocoons! We have given…
Plant Dissecting
This week in Science we dissected a plant and recapped on our prior knowledge of parts of a plant. We discussed in detail what the different functions where and had a discussion on what we thought was most important and why.
Science Crest Award
Today Y5 took part in the Science Crest award which saw them taking on a day long challenge to create a handing washing sanitation device. These sort of devices are used in places like Kenya to provide children with clean water and the children in Y5 learnt a lot in terms of STEM as a result of…
Science Day
We enjoyed a Science assembly as part of our celebrations for British Science Week. The Science Boffins wowed us with some exciting demonstrations, including chemical reactions and the how different forces act upon objects. We all participated brilliantly and it was so lovely to see the children's…
