Translating coordinates!
This week in Maths, Year 4 have been focussing on translating coordinates on a grid!
Symmetric figures!
This week in Maths, we addressed our misconceptions surrounding symmetric figures!
3-D Shapes
Today Y5 have had a hands on lesson examining 3-D shapes and their properties. We have reminded ourselves of their names and also examined the number of vertices, edges and faces they have. The children have then created fact files of these on their tablets that they can look back at later on.
Dividing to make decimals!
Today in Maths, the children have been working hard at dividing 1 and 2 digit numbers by 100!
Using a protractor to measure angles
Today in maths we have learnt how to use our protractors to measure angles up to 180 degrees, the children have been using vocabulary such as the origin on a protractor and the vertex which is where two lines meet. We also had to classify whether the angles we measured were acute, obtuse or right…
Engaging in Maths
Year 6 have been using their iPads to work though Maths problems with their teacher. Using our technology means that all children are engaged and taking an active role in every lesson.
Pesky perimeter!
This week in Maths we have been tackling a new concept of perimeter. At first we found this quite tricky but by the end of the week we have moved on to finding the missing lengths of rectilinear shapes to find the perimeter.
Combining two groups
We have been learning how to combine two groups to find the total. We put two groups together and then counted how many objects we had altogether.
Amazing maths!
Today in maths we have been exploring how to practically find two parts and name the whole up to 5. Some of us were also able to answer a reasoning question relating to the composition of numbers up to 5. We are super mathematicians!
TTRockstars Competition
This week we have been busy competing in the official Stoke-on-Trent TTRockstars competition against other schools in the city. We have been playing during our arithmetic time and some of us have been extra busy at home too. Winners will be announced next week!
Common Multiples
Today in maths we have looked at finding the common multiples of numbers, as you can see even when we get things wrong we don’t give up, we try again until we figure it out. We’ve also introduced the idea of the ‘lowest common multiple’ and how we can find patterns in sequences to help us find the…
Order of operations
Year 6 have been learning about order of operations in Maths. We have learnt that any calculations in brackets must be completed first!
