Owl Babies
We have begun our new class text this week - Owl Babies. We have used Talk for Writing and role play to show our understanding of the book, the characters and their feelings. We can recall key elements of the story in order!
Children In Need 2024
For Children In Need, we have been busy! We have come to School wearing yellow or something spotty and collected money donations to send to the charity. We have completed a walking challenge - where we did four laps of the running track outside. We have spoken about what charity is and looked into…
Number bonds within 10!
We have used part whole models and cubes to practically make number bonds within 10. We have shown different ways to make the same number. Some of us even wrote the addition number sentence for each one!
Story Map
In writing we have created our own story map to support our retell writing. We have broken the story into parts, wrote sentences/ captions for each and then drew images to remind us what happened during each part.
Part Whole Model
We have begun to use part whole models. We have used cubes to make the parts and then counted them altogether to write the whole. Some children turned their part whole model on its side or even upside down but still used the part whole model correctly!
Gymnastics!
We have begun Gymnastics this half term and we have remembered a lot of the shapes that we made with our bodies from Reception. The children could show me a tuck, pike, straddle and star shape. We also recapped some more of the shapes that we may have forgotten about and used them in a sequence.
Sentence structure
We have used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to correctly punctuate a sentence based on the speech of our characters.
Order!
We have used cubes to practically order them from smallest to greatest or greatest to smallest. We have also wrote the numbers underneath the concrete representations.
Peace at last!
We have read and roleplayed the story Peace at Last by Jill Murphy to help us to understand the events and structure.
Animal groups
We have learnt the differences between the animal groups including the physical features that will be different. The children then completed a sorting task to group the images into the correct animal type. They learnt about mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Ink
We have used water soluble pens to draw shells and spirals. We then added water to it and watched the ink spread.
