We've had another busy week in Swan Class! This week, we have been learning all about the season of Autumn. We learnt about the changes we see in the environment during our transition from Summer to Autumn, and what the different signs of Autumn are.
We read the book 'Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn' to support our learning. The children enjoyed this story and made lots of links to their own experiences.
We went on a walk around our school grounds to observe different signs of Autumn. We recapped our five senses and used these to describe Autumn during our walk. We saw the leaves on many of our trees had changed colour to orange, red, yellow and brown. We also saw that the leaves were falling off the trees. We made some interesting observations about the weather - it was cold and windy, which is why we had wrapped up warm for our walk.
In Maths, we have been learning about subtraction. We used objects to help us solve subtraction problems. We learnt that when subtracting, we take away an amount, and to find the answer, we count how many we have left. We then completed number sentences, correctly recognising the - and = symbols. The children have worked very hard on this throughout the week, and have picked up this new skills superbly :)
We have been working very hard on our letter formation and focused on 'Curly Caterpillar' letters. We have been showing increasing control with our pencils and the children are becoming aware with the sizing of their letters and positioning on the line. We continue to discuss ascenders and descenders.
We have also been applying our taught phonics knowledge within our writing. The children are able to label using their knowledge of initial sounds and we are now beginning to segment CVC words to spell..
