This term we will be learning about different celebrations. As part of the children's learning they must understand that people celebrate different traditions and discuss how these celebrations take place. We will recognise similarities and differences between different celebrations and know that we don't all celebrate the same ideas but it is important to show respect and awareness of other celebrations taking place in the world.

This week we have learnt about the celebration of Diwali. We read the story 'Dipal's Diwali' and looked at different activities that take place during this festival. The children have picked up on lots of new vocabulary and enjoyed listening to the story.

They have demonstrated through communication that not everyone celebrates Diwali and that we all have different traditions.

Well done Duck class for your respect and excellence towards different religions and cultures.

This week we have been taking part in a range of different crafts, the children have been colouring, cutting, sticking and creating their own Diwali lamps. In our art activities we have had a big focus on fine motor and strengthening the muscles in our fingers.

Maths in the provision.

The children been taught key facts about addition this week and they have been using these skills in their independent learning. We have been counting  groups to find the total, recognising the add sign and practically making addition sums.

In writing we have continued to work on our letter formation, while writing CVC words. The children have segmented and written the letters to make up the words.

I am super impressed with the children's reading. They are now identifying the taught sounds and blending to read phase 2 CVC words. Well done Ducks!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Mayer
