We have had a lovely calm week in Penguin's class and completed so much learning! We're definitely ready for the weekend after working so hard!
In English we have introduced our new genre - a Cinquain Poem. We have looked at different examples and come up with a success criteria on how to write a cinquain poem! We then watched videos, looked at pictures and used the iPads to find nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs that relate to winter. Next week, we will be writing our own winter themed Cinquain using all of the vocabulary we've collected this week.
In Maths this week we have focused on fractions. We revisited what a fraction is before finding 1/2, 1/4 and a 1/3 of a number or shape. We then moved our learning forward by looking at what 2/4 and 3/4 might look like applying our knowledge. Some of us were able to do this mentally, while others used counters to find fractions of an amount. Miss Smith was impressed with how much our learning has moved on from last time we looked at fractions.
In Geography this week we learned all about Urban and Rural areas. We learned what the difference between the two places was before sorting pictures or phrases into the correct place. After learning what they meant, we then looked at aerial photographs and compared the 2 places using geographical language such as vegetation, buildings, population, land use and community.
We really enjoyed Art this week where we used the paints to recreate Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, mixing the colors to create the right tones for his art. We created some lovely pieces of artwork which we enjoyed very much!
