Our English learning this week saw us not only finishing our 3rd person narrative recount but also starting our next writing genre which is a 1st person diary entry from Mr Tom. The final pieces were brilliant and really showcased an ability to hold a reader in suspense right until the final word, a fantastic effort from all the children that they should be proud of. To finish the week we magpied our newest genre and began to plan how we would structure each paragraph
In Maths we have continued our work on fractions starting the week off with our arithmetic skill of finding fractions of amounts. We used our multiplication knowledge to do this to identify how many times the amount goes into the denominator and then multiplying by the numerator which tells us how many parts are being used. We continued our fractions work by investigating and converting improper fractions into mixed numbers. We then used this knowledge to problem solve, including ordering and comparing. It has been a tricky week, but as always, we've sown great resilience and determination.
For Science this week we investigated why we have night and day. Using the knowledge that Earth spins on this axis once every 24 hours we realised this caused night and day to occur. When facing the Sun, we have day and when not facing it, we have night due to the fact that our orbit has us facing away from the sun
Our History learning this week saw us continue our learning relating to the building of the ancient city of Baghdad. Using vocabulary from our Geography we discussed the pull factors Baghdad would have that would allow it to grow into such a famous city. Our pull factors were identified as being high wages, art work, opportunities and the fact that the caliph himself would lead sermons in the mosque.
Our Geography learning this week has seen us continue our work relating to the Amazon rainforest. We investigated the path of the Amazon river, learning that its source is in Peru and it ends in the Atlantic Ocean. We tracked the path of the river, through South America, using compass points to help us. We also looked at the actual features of the river, using vocabulary such as meander, tributary and erosion.
