What a busy week we have had in Seal Class this week. We have been on a trip, we have raised awareness of anti-bullying by wearing odd socks and ended the week raising money for BBC Children in Need.

This week in English, we have continued to write our non-chronological report on Tawny Owls. We focused on using verbs to explain their diet and used verbs, adjectives and nouns to describe their habitats. All of the children worked extremely hard during their independent write and remembered to include many of their Year 1 skills. We are super proud of them!

This week in Maths, we have been focusing on subtraction. We began by recapping our prior knowledge from Reception by taking away practically from single digit numbers. We then moved onto finding a part using part whole models. The children used counting on, number lines and mental recall to support them with this.

For our Science lesson this week, we took a trip to Peak Wildlife. The children learnt lots about the animals diet, habitat and structure. They had an amazing time and came away more knowledgeable. They represented Waterside beautifully and we could not have been any prouder of them. The children loved seeing all the animals, but in particular enjoyed feeding the wallabies, walking through the lemur's and stroking the giant rabbits.

In Geography we learnt about the human features of Stoke-On-Trent. We sorted physical and human features to ensure we had a secure understanding between the two. The children amazed us with this and their knowledge and recall. We then moved onto identifying human features including canals, bottles kilns, houses, bridges and roads.

To help raise money for BBC Children in Need we came to school wearing yellow or something spotty. We all bought a donation of £1 that will be donated to the charity. We also held an assembly to raise awareness and also read the story called Pudsey's Great Fundraiser. We spent sometime making our own Pudsey Bear's and colouring by numbers.

Your child has taken a letter home (Friday 18th November) to inform you of our KS1 production and the part that they will play. It also tells you what costume will need to be provided. Please ensure that this is labelled and in a clearly labelled bag and returned to school by Wednesday 7th December.

Have a wonderful weekend. Hopefully the sun will shine.
